Gateway star Justin King raised eyebrows by scoring his seventh touchdown in the fourth quarter of a 62-0 victory over Latrobe last Friday. King said the Gators weren't trying to run up the score. They just needed to improve their conditioning.
"Last year, when we got to the playoffs, I was out of shape because I hadn't played in the second half," said King, who only played eight quarters of the first four games this season. "I only had eight touches in the first half. He had to keep me in. It wasn't like we were trying to score. I was just going up the middle."
King, rated the nation's top cornerback by most recruiting services, made an official visit to Michigan over the weekend. After taking visits to Florida this weekend, Southern Cal on Oct. 16 and Penn State on Nov. 6, King expects to announce his decision on Nov. 15.
The Vikings took the place of Allentown Central Catholic, which lost to District 3 Hempfield in the semifinals of the Warwick Tournament over the weekend. The PVCA rankings include all three classifications together.
Hopewell, which is also going for its third consecutive WPIAL Class AA title this year, has already won the Blackhawk, Midwestern Athletic Conference and Montour Tournaments this season. Hopewell defeated the No. 3 team in the state and the top Class AAA WPIAL team, Seneca Valley, in the finals at Montour.
