Expect veteran left winger John LeClair to be back with the Penguins for 2006-07.

"I want to play again," LeClair said. "I have another year on my contract, and we'll take it from there. As of (Wednesday) I'm planning on playing next year."

LeClair, 36, finished the season with 22 goals and 29 assists for 51 points in 73 games, and he scored his 400th career goal March 29 against the Florida Panthers.

"I feel good," he said. "It was a good year as far as that was concerned. I'm pretty happy with the way I feel, health-wise."

LeClair, who made $2.1 million this year, will make $1.5 million in 2006-07.

Draft lottery today

The NHL draft lottery will be held at noon today. The Penguins finished 29th in the league and will have an 18.8 percent chance of getting the top pick overall. They can draft no lower than third.

Attendance increase leads NHL

The Penguins led the NHL in increased attendance for the season, up 33 percent over 2003-04. They averaged 15,804 fans per game at Mellon Arena, with 12 standing-room only sellouts and 21 of 41 home dates with crowds of more than 16,000.

Team will train in Canada

Craig Patrick was in Moncton, New Brunswick, yesterday to announce the Penguins will hold four days of training camp in the Canadian city next fall plus one exhibition game Sept. 21.

They also will play an exhibition game Sept. 19 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, near Sidney Crosby's hometown of Cole Harbour.

A team spokesman said the team's opponents aren't set, but a Canadian paper reported that it will be the New York Islanders in Halifax and the Ottawa Senators in Moncton.
