Notebook: RMU boasts four players on all-NEC team |

Four Robert Morris University football players were named to the all-Northeast Conference preseason team. They are senior linebacker James Noel, senior defensive lineman Jason Forrest, senior tight end Rupert Rickards and junior kicker Nathan DiLorenzo. Noel was named last season as the conference’s defensive player of the year after logging a school-record 115 tackles.

  • Geneva College was chosen to finish third in the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League in a poll of conference coaches. Six-time defending Mideast champion St. Francis (Ind.), which lost to Carroll, Mont., 15-13, in the NAIA championship game last season, was the unanimous favorite to repeat. McKendree was the top choice to win the Midwest League championship.

  • The Geneva men’s basketball team added former Ball State assistant Chad Briscoe to its coaching staff. Briscoe spent the past two seasons at Ball State, an NCAA Division I school that competes in the Mid-American Conference.

  • Scott Statler, the only coach to serve the men’s and women’s golf programs at Pitt-Greensburg, has resigned for persona l reasons. Statler led the men’s program to four consecutive Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships (1997-2000) and was named conference coach of the year three times (1998-2000).

  • Former Penn State fencers Nonpatat Panchan and Adam Wiercioch were scheduled to compete in the the 2005 World University Games in Izmir, Turkey, beginning Thursday. Panchan was a two-time NCAA champion in the foil. Wiercioch also was a four-time NCAA All-American.
