Waynesburg named former Bethany (W.Va.) star Stuart Bracher as its new men's soccer coach. He succeeds Jim Balach , who spent the past 14 seasons with the Yellow Jackets, who posted a 5-14 record last season. Bracher, a native of Scotland, set career records at Bethany for goals (20) and points (46). He previously served as coach for one season at Bethany, where his team posted a record of 3-14-1.
For the second consecutive week, outside hitter Matt Springer of Juniata was named NCAA Division III men's volleyball player of the week by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association. The junior from Allentown registered 15 kills and .565 attack percentage in a 3-0 victory over St. Francis (Pa.).
Playing on the road for the 10th time in the past 11 games, the Robert Morris men's hockey team earned its first victory away from RMU Island Sports Center with a 4-3 overtime victory at Wayne State (Mich.) on Sunday. It marked the Colonials' first-ever College Hockey America road victory. Freshman forward Brett Hopfe , who scored the game-winning goal 38 seconds into the overtime period, was named CHA rookie of the week Monday for the second time this season.
Senior goaltender Desi Clark recorded her 57th career victory for the Mercyhurst women's hockey team in a 6-0 victory Sunday over Boston College. The win completed a weekend sweep of the Eagles and boosted Mercyhurst's record to 15-5-2.
Carnegie Mellon junior Tom Matta set a school track and field record in the weight throw at the Slippery Rock Invitational on Saturday with a distance of 52 feet, 6 inches. Elsewhere, Lock Haven freshman Ashley Hartman has set a school record in the 60 meters in each of her first four meets.
