Rifle/Trap leagues
• Fifteen weeks into the season, Frazier-Simplex (15-0) and Murrysville (15-0) are tied atop the Pittsburgh and Suburban Rifle League standings.
Frazier-Simplex stayed perfect by beating Green Valley (9-7) 1481-1461, while Murrysville beat Clymer (4-12) 1479-1422.
Allegheny (4-12) had the bye. There was no report from the Irwin Post 228 at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon match.
John Husk of Frazier-Simplex fired his second perfect 300 of the season to post the week's high score. Murrysville's John Funk was high senior with a 298, and teammate Ethan Marne was high junior with a 294. Emma Uchida was the high lady with a 294.
• Youngwood, shooting at home, posted this past week's high score in the Twi-Night Trap League, a 198. Connellsville was next with 196, followed by Ruffs Dale with 194, Hecla with 186 and East Huntingdon with 181.
Youngwood extended its hold on the season lead. It has 14 points, while Ruffs Dale has 11, Hecla has 5, Connellsville has 4 and East Huntingdon has 4.

• The Greater Pittsburgh Area Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society will hold its 33rd annual sportsmen's banquet Friday at the Four Points Sheraton, Pittsburgh North, in Mars. Doors open for cocktails at 5:15 p.m., with dinner at 7:15. The event will feature live and silent auctions, raffles, games and more. There will also be a special drawing for a Polaris Sportsman 4X4 ATV. Individual membership and dinner tickets are $75. There is also an optional family membership package for $40, which includes membership for each household member and a one-year subscription for one magazine. • Eric Stroup, author of the book "Common Sense Fly Fishing" will discuss some of the often overlooked fly fishing fundamentals like drift, reading the water, line control and mending at the next meeting of the Penn's Woods West Chapter of Trout Unlimited. It's set for 7 p.m. April 12 at Brentwood VFW Post 810, located at 3801 Clairton Blvd. near the McGinnis Sisters Market. The meeting is free and open to the public.
• The Covered Bridge Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society and the Pennsylvania Game Commission will hold the fourth annual "Southwestern Pennsylvania Field Day" from noon to 4 p.m. April 17 at state game land 232 in Washington County. According to Brian Hanna, work activities will include site trash cleanup, edge cutting and brush pile building and planting of small game cover. Participants are advised to wear work clothes, sturdy boots and gloves and be prepared for any weather conditions. They should also bring shovels, rakes, hoes, chainsaws and fuel and bar oil, sun glasses and sunscreen. Volunteers are to meet at noon in the parking lot between Home Depot and the Waffle House near the intersection of Interstate 70 and 79. • The 4-year-old "Fly Fishing Film Tour" will be making its first stop in the Pittsburgh area this spring. Films will be shown at 7:30 p.m. April 25 at The Oaks Theater, 310 Allegheny River Blvd., in Oakmont. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Shoots on tap
• Ford City Sportsmen's Club will hold its11th annual Relay for Life trap shoot May 16, with registration from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature 100 targets at 16 yards. There will be a 50/50 raffle and Chinese auction, too, and the kitchen will be open. All proceeds benefit the Relay for Life Cancer Fund. • The Sportsmen's Association of Greensburg hosts trap, skeet and sporting clays tower shoots from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays. The trap range has a ramp to accommodate special-needs shooters. The club also hosts skeet shoots from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Call 724-423-6350.
• Irwin Sportsmen's Club will hold a revolver/semiautomatic smallbore and centerfire action pistol shoot at 5 p.m. April 15. Late shooters will be accepted. Call 724-863-1967.
• Kingston Veterans and Sportsmen's Club, located off Route 217 in Latrobe, will hold a 3-D archery shoot April 11, with registration from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will take place at the clubhouse. • Saltsburg Sportsmen's Club will hold a 3-D archery shoot April 11, with registration from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for youths and free to cubs. There will be McKenzie and Reinhart targets and awards in all classes. Refreshments will be available. Call 724-639-0360.
• Ellsworth Sportsmen's Club's trap range is open Fridays at 7 p.m. for league and practice shooting. The club itself opens at 6 p.m. on Fridays, with food and drinks available for purchase. • East Monongahela Sportsmen's Club holds 25-yard pin shoots at 6:30 p.m. Mondays; cost is $6. On Thursdays, the club runs trap shoots for $2.50 per round and 50-yard pin shoots on the pistol range for $6; both events start at 6:30 p.m. All events are open to the public. Call 412-384-4747.
• East Huntingdon Sportsman's Club holds trap practice at 7 p.m. Mondays. The club's indoor archery league is holding practices at 7 p.m. Mondays. Club membership is not required to shoot. Trout stockings
The Fish and Boat Commission has kicked off its spring trout stocking program in preparation for opening day April 17. Here are the waters to get fish in some counties, for the week of April 5. Listed is the water to be stocked, the kind of fish it is to receive, and the time, date and meeting location for the stocking truck. Note that the commission only announces the week of some stockings.
Allegheny: Long Run, browns, 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Mammoth Dam.
