• The Chestnut Ridge Chapter of Trout Unlimited will have its annual picnic at the Yough Dam tailrace Saturday. Members will stock trout at 9 a.m. and start the picnic around noon. All are welcome, but anyone planning to attend is asked to register at www.crtu.org or Albud1962@aol.com.

• Logans Ferry Sportsmen's Club in Plum Borough will have an NRA basic pistol course later this month. For times and details, call 724-339-5550.

• Rostraver Sportsmen's and Conservation Association and North Belle Vernon Fire Department are having a gun bash Aug. 29 at the firemen's social hall on Broad Avenue. Doors open at 1 p.m., with drawings starting at 2. Guns will be given away every 30 minutes. Tickets are $20. Call 724-872-4399.

Shoots on tap

• The Sportsmen's Association of Greensburg will have a 3-D archery shoot July 19, with registration from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be 30 targets, refreshments, and prizes awarded. The course is ATV accessible for the handicapped. The club also has trap, skeet and sporting clays tower shoots from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays. The trap range has a ramp to accommodate special-needs shooters. The club also has skeet shoots from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Call 724-423-6350.

• Rochester Sportsman's Club will have a 3-D archery shoot today, with registration from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and free to children 11 and younger. The club is located on Route 989, behind Big Knob Fire Hall. Call 724-775-4244 the day of the shoot.

• Ellsworth Sportsmen's Club's trap range is open Fridays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. for league and practice shooting. The club itself opens at 5, with food and drinks available for purchase. • The National Wild Turkey Federation will have its second annual regional sporting clays shoot and hunting heritage banquet at the Lawrence County Sportsman's Association in Wampum Aug. 16. This is a 100-bird shoot, with action beginning at 11 a.m. Dinner follows at 4 p.m. Cost for the dinner, shoot and a NWTF membership is $75. • Kingston Veteran's and Sportsmen's Club in Latrobe will have a 3-D archery shoot Aug. 9, with registration from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the clubhouse. Youth and cubs shoot free. Prizes will be awarded. • East Monongahela Sportsmen's Club will have a 40-target 3-D archery shoot July 19, with registration from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults, $5 for youths, and free to cubs. The club also 25-yard pin shoots at 6:30 p.m. Mondays; cost is $6. On Thursdays, the club runs trap shoots for $2.50 per round and 50-yard pin shoots on the pistol range for $6; both events start at 6:30 p.m. All events are open to the public. Call 412-384-4747.

• East Huntingdon Sportsman's Club will have a 3-D archery shoot today, with registration from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for juniors ages 12 to 16, and free to youths 11 and younger. The kitchen will be open. The club also has trap practice Mondays at 7 p.m. USPSA pistol league shoots are held, as are indoor archery league shoots. Club membership is not required to shoot.
