» Allegheny Group of the Sierra Club will lead an intermediate 10-mile hike through the Roaring Run area of Forbes State Forest on May 23. The loop hike will follow the South Loop, Painter Rock and McKenna trails. Call John Dern at 412-856-4642.
» Venture Outdoors will lead a kayak trip for women on the Allegheny River from 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Female guides will go over the basics of kayaking before the trip. Participants must be at least 12 to use a solo kayak. Cost is $25 for members, $33 for nonmembers. Call 412-255-0564.
» Venture Outdoors will lead a free kayaking trip for beginners on Lake Elizabeth in Allegheny Commons Park from 4 to 7 p.m. May 28. There will be some basic instruction, followed by a 20-minute unguided paddle around the lake. All life jackets and materials are provided. Call 412-255-0564.
» Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania will hold a “puddles and ponds” program for parents and children from 10 to 11:15 a.m. Thursday. Participants will visit aquatic habitats in search of animals that live in water. Cost is $8 per member pair, $10 for nonmember pairs. Call 412-963-6100.
