O'Hara Council on Tuesday suspended the Guyasuta Volunteer Fire Department from providing emergency services because the department failed to institute changes recommended last year by the municipality's emergency management agency coordinator, according to officials.

The changes, which were required as part of the funding agreement signed last year between the fire department and the township, are designed to improve response time for emergencies at Fox Chapel Area High School, O'Hara Elementary School and "numerous" residential properties, according to a news release.

O'Hara officials said the suspension could be lifted if the recommended changes are instituted and "there is an acceptable reorganization of the department."

Fire departments from Aspinwall, Blawnox, Fox Chapel and Sharpsburg will handle calls that were answered by Guyasuta.
