Pittsburgh police arrested a person who was stopped in what investigators believe was the getaway vehicle from a North Side bank robbery.
The holdup occurred at 3:36 p.m. Thursday at the Citizens Bank in the Chateau neighborhood, where a man with a tan mask or stocking pulled over his face walked into the bank on Metropolitan Street, vaulted the counter and demanded money from the tellers, city police spokeswoman Diane Richard said.
The man tripped as he was fleeing the bank, losing his baseball cap and some money in the lobby, she said.
Witnesses said he got in the driver's seat of a red Suburban or Expedition and had trouble getting it started, prompting one of two passengers to say, ‘“Hurry up,” Richard said. As the vehicle sped away, it nearly collided with a police car responding to the bank robbery call, she said.
A description of the vehicle was broadcast and it was pulled over a few blocks away by officers on Sheffield Street, Richard said.
Police questioned the lone occupant of the vehicle and later charged him with conspiracy in the robbery, detectives said.
