The Penn-Trafford Area Recreation Commission soon will be able to accept class registrations through its website.
Commission board members on Monday agreed to a contract with website operator Rec1 to implement the software.
Rec1 will charge PTARC a 1-percent fee per transaction, with the minimum monthly charge being $100.
PTARC director Cheryl Kemerer has said she knows the rec agency has missed out on registrations in the community because there wasn't an online option before.
Rec1 will work with PTARC staff to develop the software for the website in early 2014.
Loan payment
PTARC board members approved a $10,000 lump payment this week on loan principal for the parking lot at the PTARC/Shelley Proskin Recreation Center in a move they say will save about $5,000 in interest payments over the course of the loan.
PTARC had about $60,000 in principal remaining on the 15-year loan that started three years ago.
Kemerer said she expects the rec group to end the fiscal year with a balance of about $20,000 after the loan payment and $5,000 in one-time performance bonuses to her and her assistant are paid.
Registrations up
Program registrations for the fall were up 39 percent to 745, Kemerer said.
Classes for preschoolers jumped from 47 registrants last year to 117 this year, while senior-citizen class participants rose from 14 to 65.
However, the open-swim offerings on Mondays and Tuesdays had only about seven participants per night. Those outings will be rescheduled for Mondays and Fridays in the winter.
