Normal Port Authority operations through the Mt. Washington Transit Tunnel resumed tonight.

The tunnel – which carries light-rail transit vehicles from three routes as well as 10 bus routes – was closed at 10:30 p.m. Sunday to allow Duquesne Light workers to fix an electrical problem affecting the Fort Pitt Tunnel.

Outbound light-rail transit service resumed before the afternoon rush hour and full service resumed shortly before 9 p.m., Port Authority of Allegheny County spokesman Jim Ritchie said.

The Wabash Tunnel, which had been closed since last week for some technical problems, also reopened tonight, Ritchie said.

The Mt. Washington Transit Tunnel is located at the end of the Smithfield Street Bridge on West Carson Street.
