Organizers of the Edinburgh Festival are selling tickets at a record clip.

"It's going to be fantastic," Sir Brian McMaster, the festival's director, told the Scotsman. "I'm not going to say it will be the best Festival ever because we will not know until it starts, but there are some very powerful works that will make for a hugely enjoyable evening."

Organizers of the Fringe Festival said ticket sales are running about one day ahead of last year with 250,000 sold. They hope to match last year's record of 1.25 million tickets sold -- and said sales tend to be largest during the festival itself.

The Book and Film festivals also report brisk business.

This year's Film Festival includes special events to mark the 75th birthday of Scotland's most celebrated movie star, Sean Connery.
