Orlando Bloom will be a presenter at the 77th Academy Awards, telecast producer Gil Cates announced Friday.

It will be Bloom's first appearance as a presenter on the Oscars telecast.

Bloom is best known for his performance as Legolas in the Oscar-winning "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. He is scheduled to start filming later this year on "Pirates of the Caribbean 2" -- the sequel to the 2003 hit "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

The Academy Awards will be presented on Feb. 27 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, in ceremonies to be televised live by ABC.
