Every second Saturday at Frick Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., join REI and the Pittsburgh Trail Advocacy Group for work on singletrack trails in one of the most popular parks in the city for hiking, jogging and mountain biking. The group meets at the parking lot at the end of English Lane in Squirrel Hill (by the Blue Slide Playground off Beechwood Blvd.). Registration is required. * Allegheny Cycling Association criterium series at the Washington Blvd. Bicycle Oval in Highland Park. Class C and Women race on Tuesdays beginning at 6:15 p.m. and Class B and Class A races take place on Wednesdays beginning at 6:15 p.m. See acaracing.com/home for more information.

Aug. 18 - Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half Marathon and Two-Mile Race, Parkersburg, W. Va. Race serves as Road Runners Club of America National Half Marathon Championship. Register at www.active.com , or for more information visit www.newsandsentinel.com/halfmarathon .

Aug. 18 - The Urban Race for Fifty, or TURF, adventure race at the South Side Works. Race will include approximately two miles of paddling on the Monongahela River, 12-plus miles of biking on bike trails and roads and six-plus miles of running. Meet and start at REI, South Side, 8-11 a.m.

Aug. 19 - American Cancer Society's First Annual Bike-a-thon/Cycle Splash, Raccoon State Park. Courses include 4-mile family fun ride (10 a.m. start), 35 miles (8:30 a.m.), 65 miles (8 a.m.), 80 miles (7:30 a.m.) and 100 miles (7 a.m.). Aug. 26 -- Western Pennsylvania Orienteering Club meet at Blue Spruce Park near Indiana, registration 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Suitable to all ages and skill levels. Cost $5 per map (group or family can share). Details at www.wpoc.org or contact Jim Wolfe at 814-255-6606.

Sept. 1 - Nemacolin Off-Road Triathlon and Hammerfest, or NORTH, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Farmington. The race offers three options. The short course is a 500-meter swim, a 12K bike and a 5K run. The long course is an 1,100-meter swim, 25K bike and 10K run, and the Hammerfest is a 5K run, 25K bike and 10K run. Racing begins at 8 a.m.

Sept. 22 - Grass Roots Racing series finale at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Farmington. Race will be close to six hours, more details to come on Web site, www.rootsrace.com .
