HIGH SCHOOL RIFLE

Seneca Valley had the top shooter, but Hempfield Area was deeper across the board and won the latest rifle match between the two schools, 439-378.

Cody Winget led Seneca Valley with a 95, followed by Justin Popa, 85; Toni Crosson, 67; Greg Wallace, 67; and Justin Sieffert, 66.

Hempfield Area was led once again by Sarah Frye, who shot a 93. She was followed by Andrew Brigode, 89; Brad Kauffman, 87; Adam Kauffman, 85; and Chris Hosbach, 85.

RIFLE LEAGUES

  • Dormont-Mt. Lebanon and Frazier-Simplex both won last week in the Pittsburtgh and Suburban Rifle League, upping their records to 12-1. Frazier-Simplex beat White Oak (4-9) 1483-1460, while Dormont-Mt. Lebanon downed Clymer (6-7) 1481-1466. Green Valley (-4) edged Murrysville (7-6) in a close match, 1466-1449, and Allegheny (2-11) kept Irwin Post 228 (0-13) winless on the year, 1416-1165.

    Two shooters -- Cyril Walther of Frazier-Simplex and Jason Piatt of Dormont-Mt. Lebanon -- fired perfect 300s to record the week's top score. Tom Santelli was high junior, iron sights, with a 294, and Jon Long was high junior, any sights, with the same score. High lady was junior shooter Liz Leckie with a 293. Sharing high senior honors with 292s were Chuck Blender and Don Stoll.

  • Murrysville remains atop the Allegheny Valley Rifle League A-team standings, improving to 11-1 with an 1186-1165 win over Crowfoot (3-9). Kiski is right behind at 10-2 after having downed Buffalo Valley (4-8), 1172-1163. Kittanning (7-5) beat Tarentum (0-12), 1171-1164. Fort Hand was idle.

    In the B-team standings, Murrysville is on top at 11-1, followed by Kiski (10-2); Crowfoot (8-4); Buffalo Valley (5-7); Kittanning (5-7); Fort Hand (2-10); and Tarentum (1-11).

    The week's top shooter, with a 298, was Ray Harvey of Murrysville. High senior was Bob King with a 289, and top junior was Jon Long of Murrysville with a 296. Top female was junior shooter Sarah Frye with a 295.

  • White Oak Rod and Gun Club will hold open fun shoots for "any age and any guage" Feb. 26 to March 28. There will be 10 rounds of skeet in five weeks, with 250 targets and a mystery bird.     FISHING TOURNAMENTS

  • The Moraine State Park and Bait Box Bassmasters bass tournament set for Lake Arthur on March 29 is for members only. Non-members may not participate.
