The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, in cooperation with various organizations, will host several "Start Smart" fishing clinics for new anglers, and those looking for a little assistance. Here are the dates and times for a few courses:

Yough River guide Scott Loughner will conduct a smallmouth bass fly tying seminar from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Youghiogheny Canoe Outfitters, 2261/2 Collinsburg Road, West Newton. The class is free, but call 724-872-7585 for reservations.

East Monongahela Sportsmen's Club will hold a high-powered rifle shoot beginning at 9 a.m. May 24. Cost is $10 for seniors and $5 for juniors.
