Members of the U.S. military stationed in Europe and the Mideast appear to have voted at lower rates this year than overseas military personnel did in 2000. The Army, Navy, and Air Force reported 88,788 ballots had been mailed from Europe as of Election Day, Stars and Stripes reported Wednesday. Approximately 150,000 military personnel and dependents are eligible to vote. About 59 percent of those people mailed ballots for this year’s election. The number does not include e-mail or fax ballots that some states allow. Participation in the presidential elections among uniformed citizens stationed overseas reached 69 percent in 2000.
