Owens close to winning bet with Reid

PHILADELPHIA -- Even with Terrell Owens' spectacular season, Philadelphia coach Andy Reid could find himself wishing for a tight end.

Reid is finding himself dangerously close to suiting up in spandex tights, thanks to a training camp wager he made with Owens. When Owens complained in June about wearing shorts over his formfitting tights, Reid said he could shed the shorts if the Eagles loquacious wide receiver caught 15 touchdown passes.

Then, Reid recalled during minicamp, he upped the ante.

"I told him, 'I'll wear the tights,"' Reid said.

With a team-record tying 13 touchdown receptions going into Sunday's game at the New York Giants, Owens has no intention of letting his rotund coach welsh out this bet.

"I'm getting out of those shorts," Owens said. "That's all I'm concerned about."

Reid, however, has never publicly said if Owens would no longer have to wear the shorts.

Owens didn't know if Reid would have to squeeze into the spandex tights during practice or let everyone else catch a glimpse during the weekly media sessions.

"I think it will be a treat for everybody else," Owens said, smiling.

And to think that people thought Nicollette Sheridan and her towel weren't for public viewing.

At least one Eagle could do without seeing Reid slip into something more comfortable.

"That's nasty," quarterback Donovan McNabb said.
