Business is booming for an Export bar and grill, which leaves its owner wanting more — space, that is.

Tony DeCeasere, owner of Jiggers, along Washington Avenue, said his business has grown to the point where he needs to expand his kitchen. Because of the structure of his building, he can't go up or out, DeCeasere said. Instead, he wants to extend a 4-foot-by-18-foot space where the restaurant's awning is.

But Export officials aren't sure they can allow that.

“We need to make sure you're not encroaching on a right-of-way,” council President Barry Delissio said.

Council agreed to have code enforcement officer Mike Stack and a representative from the electric company take a look at the area DeCeasere wants to expand into and report back to council.

Medic One donation

Export Council agreed to make a $2,000 donation to Medic One, the emergency medical service that serves Murrysville and Export.

Delissio recommended a $3,000 donation because of the number of calls the ambulance service responds to in the borough. However, Councilman Stanley Mahinske suggested the $2,00 donation for now.

Last month, council debated how much to donate to the Murrysville-based ambulance service. This is the first donation from the borough since 2008, when it contributed $2,000 to the service. Based on the number of calls Medic One responds to in Export, a donation could have been as high as $5,000, Delissio said.

Flags for sale

The Export Historical Society is selling Export flags, which are similar to the banners that were hung throughout the borough to commemorate its centennial last year.

Flags will cost $100 and are available with grommets for traditional flagpoles and with a pole hem for decorative flag poles.

A deposit is not required. Those interested can fax an order to Tonia Waryas at 888-516-1756 or mail it to 5950 Johnson Avenue, Export, PA 15632.
