The Palestinian Authority Saturday suspended traffic at the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt to protest Israel's use of radiation in searching travelers.

PA official in charge of border crossings, Imad Makhmir, said, "The Israeli army resumed Saturday the use of radioactive equipment in searching Palestinian travelers, a measure that poses health hazards."

Makhmir said the Israelis had stopped using the radioactive devices on April 6 and returned to the measure without any reason or justification.

"They had initially agreed to use the radioactive equipment in special security cases, not on all travelers, because radiation is very dangerous for health," he said.
