Pakistani officials confirmed Sunday a consul in Iraq is missing, but there was no immediate information indicating whether he was kidnapped.

Malik Mohammed Javed, who worked at Pakistan's embassy in Baghdad, was last seen Saturday in the Iraqi capital, the BBC reported.

Some foreigners kidnapped by insurgents have been killed and others freed for ransom.

Iranian diplomat Fereidoun Jahani, who was abducted last year as he traveled from Baghdad to Karbala, was released after seven weeks.
