Writers were inspired by the Paranormal Murder Mystery Workshop on Saturday at Greensburg Hempfield Area Library .
The workshop was hosted by Ligonier Valley Writers and was conducted by experienced authors Mary Ann Mogus and Barb Miller.
Writers crafted characters, setting, point of view and plot and got critiqued after reading their own material aloud.
It was fast-paced information helpful at any stage or age.
One participant was 14-year-old Cindy Zelmore, a student at Connellsville Junior High East, who has been writing since the age of 6, at her grandmother's encouragement. Miller has been a mentor in a writing program at Mt. Pleasant Library.
"I began writing to entertain myself in school after finishing classwork before others. I continued writing because I fell in love with it, the ability to tell a story and look through a window into another world, I simply loved telling stories." Zelmore explained in an e-mail. "I still attend the program and write stories, now longer and deeper ones and of different genres. I hope to publish a book when I finish one, but most of all I want to tell people stories, stories they can relate to and enjoy."
Deadlines are fast approaching for submitting entries to the Loyalhanna Review, the LVW's literary magazine.
And high school students still have time to apply for the Tina Thoburn Memorial Scholarship to the Ligonier Valley Writers Conference to be held July 15. Scholarships are open to accredited students throughout Pennsylvania who will be a recent graduate or entering 12th grade.
