A partial human skull found in a state forest last month had likely been there for at least 10 years.

Dennis Dirkmaat, a forensic anthropologist at Mercyhurst University, says his team scoured a half-mile radius and found no other human remains near the skull's location in Forbes State Forest in Somerset County.

Two park employees found the bones, about three-fourths of the top of a skull, on April 11.

Dirkmaat says the rest of the skeleton has probably been buried by layers of leaves. It's also possible the skull was carried from another location by an animal.

The partial skull will also be DNA tested at a Texas police lab. That process could take up to six months.
