A gentleman named Sullivan D'Amico had an inspiration one day to become a local grocery store operator. Little did he know how huge a success this would become. Starting out in the street entrance to a home, he eventually moved to a nearby location and built a home for his family and opened the grocery store under their apartment. With the help of his family Pechin grown into an employer of 330 people.
From a grocery store where the family delivered groceries to the home Pechin grew to include a Country Fresh Bakery with wedding cakes, a cafeteria, which on Mondays gives a free meal to all senior citizens -- this includes meat, potatoes, roll, vegetable and coffee. Senior citizens have come in bus loads to enjoy the day. Also, there is a variety store with assorted housewares and toys, Shoe and Apparel, House-Auto-Garden Center, Beverage Distributor, Sports, Golf, Drug and Tobacco, a Pechin Express where they also do catering, Lottery, gift certificates and money orders and Vocelli Pizza.
You name it, you can usually find it at the Shopping Village. They have expanded to downtown Dunbar with an Express Store, Connellsville with Vocelli Pizza and Express, Uniontown with Vocelli Pizza and Express and to Scottdale with Vocelli Pizza.
The expansion has gone to Fairchance, Carmichaels, Dunbar and Republic with Home Center and Lumber stores.
There is a Marina in Denbo and a Fire Truck Museum in progress with a large variety of fire trucks from different areas.
Grocery store hours Mondays through Saturdays are 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For all other department hours, phone 724 277-4251.
Pechin Shopping Village is a hometown business and Sullivan D'Amico still resides here. He has seen continued growth in every area of the business he founded by giving his customers the best possible prices everyday.
