Penn Hills senior Desiree Oliver, one of the WPIAL's top girls basketball players, has committed to Temple.
The 5-foot-8 point guard had more than 20 scholarship offers, and chose the Owls over finalists LSU and George Washington, Penn Hills coach John Tate said. She averaged 17 points last season for Penn Hills, which reached the WPIAL Class AAAA semifinals.
Oliver earned MVP honors in July when her AAU team won a 17-and-under national title in Atlanta, Tate said.
“She's multifaceted in what she can do offensively,” Tate said. “She can get to the rim and she has an old-school, mid-range game, which you don't see a lot in today's game. And over the last six months, she's become a knock-down 3-point shooter. In a nutshell, she's very hard to guard.”
