Penn State coach Joe Paterno weighs in on a number of issues heading into his team’s game this week:

On the quarterback battle between Rob Bolden and Matt McGloin:

These kids have worked so hard to have an opportunity and they’re so close, it’s difficult for me to get up there and say so-and-so is better. What we’ll do this Saturday, we’ll try to win the football game. Whether we go with two quarterbacks, one, I can’t tell you right now.

On the supporting cast helping the quarterbacks:

We’re going to practice as hard as we can. We’re going to try to get as good as we can be. We’re going to try to get the supporting cast as good as we can get them so there isn’t any more pressure on the quarterbacks than it has to be, so that they don’t have to win the game.

On preparing for Alabama quarterbacks AJ McCarron and Phillip Sims:

They haven’t played enough football for me to pinpoint what to really expect from both of them. We’ve got to play our game, and we’ve got to be flexible enough to adjust to whatever they’re doing. As far as knowing what to expect from either one of them, I could not say we have the answer to that right now.

On if he expects to be coaching on the sideline against Alabama:

I’m getting better every day. If you asked me at three this morning, I’d have said I would have been sprinting out on the field. But I got up and started doing some things, and all of a sudden it started hurting a little bit. I’ve got my fingers crossed. I think I’m going to be able to be on the sideline. There’s a good chance I will be. I’m in some pain. Unless I get a little bit better than I am, then (the doctors) will probably say you’re taking too much of a risk.
