This game was literally decided by inches.
Amy DiVincenzo of Penn-Trafford lofted a high floating shot toward the net midway through the first half that skipped off the fingertips of Norwin goalkeeper Kori Korpar to give the Warriors a 1-0 victory and the Section 1-AAA title Monday.
Penn-Trafford also received stellar defensive play from sweeper Alisha Moulton, fullback Kristin Colley and goalkeeper Eileen Tiano, who helped keep Norwin off the scoreboard.
"We were struggling, keeping track of our marks," Penn-Trafford coach Mike Sapsara said. "But Alisha, Eileen and Kristin all played well. Kristin had a tremendous game, marking their back. She shut their backs down."
Sapsara said he didn't expect Norwin to play so well and the Knights caught them by surprise.
"It was a good win," Sapsara said. "They responded and made some key changes from the first game. Their players and coaches should be commended."
Penn-Trafford improved to 15-1-1 overall and 14-0 in the section. Norwin fell to 17-3, 12-2.
Norwin coach Dana Ferry said the changes have been something that were implemented since the first meeting, which was won by Penn-Trafford 3-0.
"The team played tremendous tonight, and I told then we are prepared for the playoffs," Ferry said. "You always hear peak for the playoffs, and we're there.
"We had the better of play, and their defense came up big a number of times. It just wouldn't go in. It was one of those games, and those things happen in this sport."
Tiano was called on took make sveral saves during the second half and especially down the stretch. She stopped three shots in the final minute of the game.
Tiano ended up with 12 saves, while Korpar had eight.
