Senate confirms Scott Brady as U.S. Attorney for Western District of Pennsylvania
The U.S. Senate confirmed Pittsburgh attorney Scott Brady as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania in a voice vote Thursday.
Brady, nominated by President Trump in September, replaces David Hickton, who resigned in November 2016. Hickton’s former second-in-command, Soo C. Song, has been acting U.S. Attorney for the past year.
U.S. Sens. Pat Toomey, R-Lehigh Valley, and Bob Casey, D-Scranton, supported Brady’s confirmation.
“With his experience and sterling reputation, I am confident that Mr. Brady will be a terrific U.S. Attorney and will serve the people of Western Pennsylvania with honor,” Toomey said in a news release issued jointly with Casey.
“Scott Brady has a vast amount of legal experience. In addition to previously serving in the U.S. Attorney’s office, Mr. Brady has also clerked for (Third Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals) Judge Thomas Hardiman and worked in the private sector,” Toomey added.
Casey said he was “confident that Mr. Brady will build on his previous experience in the U.S. Attorney’s Office to serve the Commonwealth honorably.”
Brady, 48, of Ohio Township, has most recently worked as head of litigation for Federated Investors in Pittsburgh. He served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Pittsburgh from 2004 to 2010, prosecuting white-collar violent crimes along with drug trafficking offenses.
Brady also worked as an associate at the law firms of Jones Day and Reed Smith, focusing his practice on multi-district litigation, white-collar criminal matters and internal investigations, according to the White House.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and a law degree from Penn State University. He is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
Before law school, Brady worked in emergency relief and development in Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia.
