Perryopolis residents this week voiced concerns to council concerning garbage collection services.
Resident Leslie Chalfant told council that Fayette Waste has refused to pick up her garbage due to an issue involving an automatic bill payment.
Chalfant was not alone.
Council members said there have been incidents in which residents did not get their trash picked up, even when there were no billing issues.
In February, council directed solicitor Samuel J. to take legal action against Fayette Waste in an effort to collect an outstanding debt. Council said the company did not uphold its contract with the borough.
The exact amount owed to the borough was not released.
"They are required to pick up garbage," Davis told council.
He suggested a meeting be set up with the owner of the company and council.
Council also received a letter from the U.S. Postal Service about the borough building's post office box and the local organizations, including the parks and recreation department, flower club, heritage society and sewage department, that are using the building's address for correspondences.
The Postal Service has instructed the borough to have the borough building have suites for two of those organizations that will need their own post office boxes, which they must pay. The three other organizations will be exempt.
The local ambulance service uses the borough building, but it pays rent and is exempt.
Council decided to have the parks and recreations department and the heritage society pay for separate post office boxes and have their own suites in the building.
In other business:
⢠Council voted to send out bids to be opened at next month's regular meeting to lay blacktop along Janet Street from the trailer park to Quaker Church Road. The cost of the project is estimated to be between $40,000 and $45,000 and will be paid with liquid fuels money. Councilman Tom Kmetz met with PennDOT officials who recommended applying blacktop rather than the council's original plan of an asphalt and sealer project. Council voted to purchase $2,500 in stone for the project.
⢠Resident Jerry Winslow expressed concerns about the deteriorating condition of Strawn Road. He said laterals that were put into place when a sewage line was installed a few years back were starting to sink.
⢠Council voted to contribute $200 to the Star Junction Fish and Game Club's Youth Fishing and to give $500 to the Flower Club for planting in the borough.
