The Westmoreland County Coroner was called to the scene of a fatal train accident Wednesday night in Jeannette.

According to a spokesman from the Department of Public Safety, an unidentified person was struck by a Norfolk Southern train along the railroad tracks at North Railroad and Eighth streets in the city near the Penn Borough border just after 10:30 p.m.

It was unclear if the victim was male or female, but the body was found on the tracks and reported to Westmoreland 911 by Norfolk Southern, the spokesman said.

Jeannette police Chief Jeff Stahl said last night he had just received a call about the accident and was en route to the scene.

No other information was available.
