A house fire in Derry Township sent two people to the hospital, and firefighters resuscitated three pet cats, officials said today.

The fire broke out about 4:05 p.m. Saturday in the 800 block of West Sixth Avenue. An emergency dispatcher said smoke was pouring from the building's second floor.

Residents Joe and Rita Haas, were transported by ambulance to a hospital for observation. Condition reports were not available.

The Red Cross is assisting the couple.

Bradenville Fire Chief Mark Piantine said he responded to the call, although members of his department were participating in a fundraiser at the time. Nearby departments were on standby to handle any calls during the event.
