State police at Greensburg have advised residents to be wary of a telephone scam. According to police, a man and a woman called an elderly Greensburg resident, telling her she had won $150,000 from Consumer’s Clearinghouse. To claim the prize, she was instructed to send $620 via a Wal-Mart MoneyGram to Atlanta. The callers told the woman that one of them would then go to her house and, upon seeing the MoneyGram receipt, would hand her the prize. The woman was then told there would be a $42 service fee assessed when the receipt was verified. The woman didn’t fall for the ruse. Police have asked anyone who received a similar phone call to call the Greensburg barracks at 724-832-3288.
