Vietnam Marine veteran Dan Cinowalt of Bon Air admires Pittsburgh’s skyline Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, from the upper deck of the World War II-era USS LST 325. The ship will be docked on the North Shore during the next week and will be open to the public for tours.
The LST 325 arrived in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, after traveling through the Emsworth Lock and Dam and docking on the North Shore outside Heinz Field as part of an exhibit that includes public tours of the WWII-era vessel.

The ship, now maned by veteran volunteers, made 42 trips in support of the the Omaha Beach invasion on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and also was used in Sicily in July 1943, and later served in the Cold War on duty in the Arctic.

It is the only Landing Ship Tank in the country that is fully operational and being restored to its original condition. All of her original equipment is still onboard and working, including the anti-aircraft guns.
