The live ram purchased by Pine-Richland students prior to the WPIAL football championships has a new home.

“Neil,” named after Pine-Richland alum and Pirates second baseman Neil Walker, was acquired by seniors Andrew Lancia and Donovan Harris, who planned to bring the ram to the student section’s tailgate Friday morning. But Neil escaped from them when they went to Lancia’s friend’s farm in Saxonburg to pick up the animal.

The ram reappeared later that day on a neighboring farmland with a herd of sheep.

Lancia said the ram will now live at that farm, whose owners sought such an animal. Neil lives among more than a dozen sheep in a more spacious enclosure, the senior added.
