Pipitone Group brings 3 more on board

Advertising, public relations

  • Pipitone Group hired Michael Maskarinec as creative director, Christopher Cruz as interactive account supervisor and Nicole Zeller as account supervisor. Maskarinec previously was design director and director of creative services at WQED. Cruz previously was communications officer for the career development center at Brown University. Zeller was an account executive for Krome Communications and in the communications division of Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania/Maryland.

  • Patrick T. Mangus has established Forge Communications. The new agency will focus on reputation management, litigation support and crisis and issues management. Mangus previously directed MangusCatanzano for 15 years and served as senior vice president with Ketchum and with Blattner Bruner. Doan B. Johnson II was named director of business development at Forge. Most recently, he was account manager with Flatrolled Steel Inc. and Texstar Metals LLC.

Education

  • Apagna Learning hired these people: Daniel Bolena as director, academic services organization; Brian D. Wallace as marketing communications manager; and Kate Whitmore as marketing programs manager. Bolena formerly was director of global support with Vocollect Inc. Wallace previously worked for Blattner Brunner and GolinHarris. Whitmore formerly worked for Development Dimensions International.

  • Allegheny Valley School hired Jeff Carraway as director of finance and promoted Carol Erzen to director of training and staff development. Carraway has 15 years' financial management experience. With the school since 1981, Erzen most recently was administrator for its Patricia Hillman Miller campus in Ingram.

  • Kelly Otter was named associate dean in University of Pittsburgh's College of General Studies. Most recently, she was the college's assistant dean of academic programs. Before that, she was assistant dean in the School of Arts and Sciences at the College of New Rochelle.

  • Wolfgang Schlor was named interim director at University of Pittsburgh's University Center of International Studies. Currently, he is the center's associate director. Prior to going to Pitt in 1992, Schlor was a research associate at International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and a visiting scholar at Siberian International Center for Regional Studies in Russia.

  • Mathematical Association of America selected Robert Vallin as its first associate director for student activities. Vallin is a math professor at Slippery Rock University.

Health care

Technology

  • Industrial Scientific Corp. elected Larry S. Blair to its board of directors. An attorney and certified public accountant, Blair practices tax, business, estate and financial planning law at Metz Lewis LLC.

  • Joshua S. Paserba, general manager of International Quality Consultants Inc., was named an equity partner in the firm. An ISO accredited lead system auditor and a certified AAR auditor, Paserba has been with the firm since 2000.

  • Educational Computer Systems Inc. hired Corky Mobley as a corporate trainer for the West Coast. He previously was a client service and sales representative with General Revenue Corp.

Nonprofits

National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Pittsburgh Branch, elected these people as executive committee officers: M. Gayle Moss, president; Constance Parker, first vice president; Marcella Lee, second vice president; Mercedes Taylor , secretary; Audra Walker , assistant secretary; Alma Speed Fox, treasurer. Others elected to the executive committee are: Charles Graham, Alma Harris, Patricia Jacobs, Billy Joe Jordan, Edward Meeks Jr., Mildred Morrison, K. Chase Patterson, Donald Singleton, Richard Stewart and William Thompkins.

  • PWCampbell hired Bifford R. Fagan as regional vice president and John Munizza as project manager. Fagan previously was a senior project manager at Marco Construction. Munizza has 25 years of experience as a project manager and project engineer.

  • Alexandra Hendrickson was promoted to executive vice president in the Pittsburgh office of DHR International. She specializes in the technology-based and advanced manufacturing sectors and in coatings and chemicals. Prior to joining the executive search firm in 2005, she was an executive at PPG Industries Inc.

Awards

The National Association of Small Business Development Centers presented its Distinguished Service Award to Peter Tulk, senior business analyst at St. Vincent College Small Business Development Center. The award recognized Tulk's volunteer service to small business owners along the U.S. Gulf Coast in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

New business
