The Pirates placed right-hander Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday and recalled left-hander Brian Burress from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ohlendorf (1-11) left Monday's start after just eight pitches and was diagnosed with a strain to the latissimus dorsi/teres major muscles (back of the right shoulder).

Burres has made 10 appearances and seven starts with the Pirates this year and is 2-3 with a 5.62 ERA. His last stint with the team was April 25-June 3.

Ohlendorf is on the DL retroactive to Tuesday .
