Pitching matchups: Today, Ron Villone (0-1, 7.20 ERA) vs. Elmer Dessens (0-1, 9.82), 1:35 p.m.; Wednesday, Kip Wells (1-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. Jose Acevedo (1-0, 1.50), 7:05 p.m.; Thursday, Jimmy Anderson (1-0, 2.70 ERA) vs. Jimmy Haynes (0-1, 15.42), 7:05 p.m.

TV/Radio: The games today and Thursday will be televised by Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh. All three games will be broadcast on KDKA-AM (1020).

Notes: The Pirates lost the PNC Park opener last year to the Reds, 8-2. The Pirates were 8-9 against the Reds, going 3-4 at home against them. … This is the first road game for the Reds, who were 39-42 on the road last season. … Outfielder Ken Griffey Jr. is out at least 3 to 6 weeks after partially dislocating his right kneecap and straining the patella tendon in his right leg during a rundown in Sunday's game against the Montreal Expos. Griffey was not expected to accompany the Reds to Pittsburgh. … Outfield sensation Adam Dunn is off to a slow start, with two hits in 17 at-bats. … Shortstop Barry Larkin also has struggled out of the gate, going 4 for 26.
