ST. LOUIS — Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson was a late scratch from the lineup for tonight’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Wilson is bothered by tightness and fatigue in a muscle behind his left knee. The sore spot is just above the area in his calf which he injured April 3, and which landed him on the disabled list for six weeks.

“It’s a sharp pain in there every time I’ve run the past couple of days,” Wilson said. “Hopefully, it’s just inflamed.”

Wilson will be available to pinch-hit tonight if needed. Manager John Russell said he expects Wilson will be back in the lineup tomorrow.

“If he had to play today, he could,” Russell said. “But there’s no sense pushing it.”

Wilson was replaced in the lineup by shortstop Luis Rivas.

“I want to get back out there and play,” Wilson said. “I’ve watched enough baseball this year.”
