Pitt: Inside the ropes
CRACKBACK: When freshman cornerback Jovanni Chappel intercepted a Kevan Smith pass in Tuesday’s morning practice, left guard Dom Williams flattened linebacker Scott McKillop on the return.
ONE MORE TIME: Cornerback Darrelle Revis picked off a pass for the third consecutive practice yesterday morning, intercepting Tyler Palko’s pass intended for Oderick Turner on a crossing pattern in the end zone.
WELCOME BACK: After returning from a one-day hiatus, T.J. Porter dazzled in the morning practice. The freshman snared a pass from Bill Stull across the middle and scored, then caught another for a touchdown.
GUS STOP: Sophomore defensive tackle Gus Mustakas made two big hits in a five-play sequence during yesterday’s scrimmage. He sacked Palko, then plowed over right guard John Simonitis to drop Brandon Mason for a loss.
TRASH TALK: When tailback Kevin Collier tried to bounce through the pile on a goal-line play, linebacker H.B. Blades stopped him short and screamed, “That (stuff) don’t work here.”
