Pitt scheduled to play Wichita State

The Pitt men's team will play Wichita State in the semifinals of the O'Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 23. Texas and Iowa square off in the other semifinal. The tournament will begin with regional-round games from Nov. 15-19, with the four host schools automatically advancing to the championship rounds. Pitt entertains Binghamton at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at Petersen Events Center. The consolation and championship games will be played Nov. 24.

• Former Youngstown State players John Barber and Quin Humphrey have signed professional contracts to play in Europe. Barber joins Bank BPS Basket KWIDZYN of the Poland PLK League. Humphrey will play for the Association Academica De Coimbra of the Portugese LPB League. Both players scored 1,000 career points, including Humphrey, whose 1,707 points ranks eighth all-time at Youngstown State.

Pro basketball

• The Toronto Raptors completed a trade with the Bucks yesterday, sending Carlos Delfino to Milwaukee as part of a four-player deal. Toronto acquired forward Amir Johnson and guard-forward Sonny Weems and sent Roko Ukic to Milwaukee along with Delfino, who spent last season in Russia.

Boxing

• Chris John's featherweight title rematch with Rocky Juarez highlights a strong lineup for the undercard of Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s comeback fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on Sept. 19. Former welterweight champion Zab Judah also will meet Antonio Diaz in a 144-pound fight at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, while lightweight Australian brawler Michael Katsidis will take on former U.S. Olympian Vicente Escobedo.

Hockey

• The Detroit Red Wings signed veteran forward Todd Bertuzzi to a $1.5 million, one-year contract, where the 34-year-old played during the 2006-07 season.

Tennis

• Venus Williams' tuneup for the U.S. Open hit a surprising roadblock with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-4 loss to Ukraine's Kateryna Bondarenko in the second round of the Rogers Cup. Williams, seeded third, lost to an opponent ranked No. 64.

Winter sports

• Two-time U.S. Olympian Caroline Lalive is retiring, ending her comeback from various knee injuries. The 30-year-old Lalive earned five World Cup podium finishes.

Off the field

• A grand jury has re-indicted a former Kentucky high school football coach on an additional charge in the case of a player who collapsed at practice and later died. The indictment returned yesterday charges David Jason Stinson with wanton endangerment in the case of 15-year-old Max Gilpin, who died three days after collapsing in Louisville last August.
