Pitt sophomore Cheron Taylor won't be in uniform for the Panthers' opener at 7 p.m. Tuesday against Coppin State at Petersen Events Center.

The 5-foot-11 forward from Detroit was suspended for violating team rules.

"We have a standard, and players have to be accountable for their actions," said Pitt coach Agnus Berenato, who would not specify the violation. "When you represent a team, you can't let the team down, and she did."

Another player who also will be missing is freshman forward Aieshya Dixon, who left the team for medical reasons. Dixon, 6-1 from Youngstown, Ohio, has a condition called Rhabdomyolysis, which is brought on by dehydration. It can result in the breakdown of muscles and can result in kidney failure. Dixon passed out at a practice and spent a day in the hospital.

Berenato said Pitt doctors won't clear her to play.

"She can still participate in normal sports activities," Berenato said. "She just can't do the level that is required of a Division I athlete."
