American Airlines to stop nonstop service from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles

American Airlines will halt its nonstop flights to and from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles next year, airport officials said Monday.

The service will be discontinued by Feb. 14, according to Bob Kerlik, vice president of media relations for the Allegheny County Airport Authority. It will continue its regular, four-day-a-week schedule until then.

“It’s disappointing that American has decided to discontinue its LAX service given our strong market and growth,” Kerlik said. “We’re happy to continue offering year-round, daily nonstop service to LAX on Southwest. Southwest, like nearly every other carrier at PIT is growing. It’s unfortunate that American has chosen to not take advantage of the burgeoning and diversified economy here as other carriers have.”

American began its nonstop service between Pittsburgh and Los Angeles International in August 2013. The last flight to Pittsburgh International from Los Angeles will be Feb. 13, and the last flight from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles will be the following day.
