Authorities: Suspect in Braddock killing yelled ‘police’ at apartment door to get inside
The suspect in a deadly shooting in Braddock identified himself as a police officer to get inside the apartment, authorities said Thursday.
The June 20 shooting left 21-year-old Leryal Matthews dead in a Talbot Avenue apartment, authorities said. He’d been shot multiple times and died at the scene.
A Crime Stoppers plea for help Thursday indicated that a witness who was inside the apartment reported there was a knock at the door and a man’s voice shouted, “police.”
The witness opened the door, and a man pushed his way past the witness and inside, according to the release. The witness heard gunshots and found Matthews shot to death in bed.
The suspect was wearing black pants and red underpants, and he had a black T-shirt with white lettering wrapped around his face, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers at 412-255-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of a suspect.
