Deputies arrest suspect in deadly Duquesne bar shooting
Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Duquesne earlier this month.
Deputies tracked the suspect to a home in Pittsburgh where he was taken into custody Tuesday.
Carl Jones, 27, has been on the run since Aug. 13 when he allegedly shot and killed Donnell Demery inside the 1313 Lounge early that morning, according to police.
Jones and Demery, 54, exchanged words in the bar shortly after midnight, police said. Jones left but returned and shot Demery at least five times.
Two weeks of investigation led sheriff’s deputies to a home on Dinwiddie Street in Pittsburgh’s Hill District on Tuesday morning. They knocked on the apartment door and announced themselves, Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus said.
Kraus said deputies received no answer but heard movement inside. They entered the building with Woody, a police dog. Woody “alerted the fugitive of his presence,” Kraus said. Jones surrendered to deputies, “thanks in part to K9 Woody,” Kraus said.
Jones is charged with homicide and firearms violations in connection with Demery’s death.
