Fugitive sex offender found hiding under pile of laundry
A Duquesne man who previously pleaded guilty to rape allegedly attacked another woman this week and was arrested Thursday morning hiding under a pile of clothes, according to sheriff’s deputies.
George Holiday, 28, pleaded guilty to October 2016 charges he sexually assaulted a woman in the parking lot of an apartment building and, in May 2017, he was sentenced in the case, said Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus.
Part of the sentence included probation.
Police responded to a Wilkinsburg home on Tuesday where a woman told officers Holiday assaulted her, Kraus said. The woman said she’d had an argument with Holiday, who allegedly became irate, choked her and threatened to kill her.
Holiday fled the home before police arrived, and a warrant on charges of assault, strangulation and terroristic threats was issued, Kraus said. An additional warrant for violating his probation was issued.
Deputies converged on a Hill Avenue home in Wilkinsburg about 9 a.m. Thursday after a tip that Holiday was staying there, Kraus said. A woman, later identified as Theresa Jones-Carey, answered the door and claimed Holiday was not there, he said.
After “significant conversation,” she allowed deputies to search the home, all the while maintaining Holiday wasn’t there, Kraus said.
A brief search turned up Holiday hiding under a pile of clothes, he said.
Holiday allegedly ignored orders to show himself and his hands, leading deputies to tase him. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail on the probation violation, as well as to await arraignment on the new assault charges.
Kraus said Jones-Carey will also be charged with hindering apprehension.
