A man died Saturday night after reportedly hitting a police cruiser, then later crashing into a tree in Pittsburgh’s East Hills.

Derek Winstead, 33, of Pittsburgh died about 10:30 p.m. at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital after crashing at Swissvale Avenue near Calistoga Place and Park Hill Drive about an hour earlier, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Driving a pickup, Winstead rear-ended the police cruiser in Penn Hills, then drove off, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV. The cruiser was pushed in to three other vehicles, damaging it so it couldn’t pursue the pickup.

About 10 minutes later, authorities were called to Park Hill Drive and Swissvale Avenue, where the pickup had hit the tree, Pittsburgh police said.
