Betty Nesbit, 84, of Glenshaw will receive a Mooseheart Community Spirit Award for her work with young people in the community and raising money for college scholarships through the Glenshaw Century Club.

Noteworthy: The North Hills Moose Lodge will honor Nesbit on Thursday with a Mooseheart Community Spirit Award for her work with young people and in raising money for college scholarships through the Glenshaw Century Club. Allegheny County Council recognized Nesbit and nine other Mooseheart winners at a meeting this month.

Age: 84

Residence: Glenshaw

Family: Son, Dan Littell, and daughter, Diane Brown. Her husband, Howard Nesbit, died six years ago.

Occupation: Nesbit ran Cheswick Pools and Patios for 40 years before selling it in 2003.

Background: Nesbit travels extensively, with future trips planned for Virginia, Florida and Israel. She is an avid reader, gardener and bridge player.

Education: Nesbit graduated from Shaler High School in 1947. About 40 members still meet for regular reunions.

Quote: “Our youth are the future of the community. When we have the interviews for the scholarships, one of the questions we ask is where do you see yourself in 10 years, and if they say they’re out of here, we don’t really consider them for a scholarship. We want them to stay here.”
