Pittsburgh council introduces resolution to pay Rocco’s vet bills

Pittsburgh City Council is considering paying more than $12,000 in veterinary bills for a city police dog fatally stabbed in January while officers apprehended a fugitive in Lawrenceville.

Council on Tuesday introduced resolutions that would pay the Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center in Ohio Township $12,991 for emergency care rendered to Rocco Jan. 28-30 until the dog died.

John Rush, 21, of Stowe is awaiting trial on charges related to Rocco’s stabbing.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is buying another dog for the police department through the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation, which he established after a police dog was shot and killed in his hometown of Findlay, Ohio.
