Pittsburgh firm to spread word about new voter ID law

A South Side advertising firm has landed a $1.8 million contract to spread the word about Pennsylvania’s new voter ID law and how state residents can ensure they have the identification required to cast a ballot in November.

Red House Communications will start producing radio, television and print advertisements as soon as the state signs off on the “messaging,” said president and CEO Gloria Blint. The ads will direct people seeking more information to votesPA.com or the 1-877-VotesPA hotline, she said.

The voter ID law, enacted in March, requires voters to present an unexpired photo ID at the polls; residents without them may be eligible for free IDs through PennDOT. The American Civil Liberties Union is seeking an injunction to stop the law’s implementation.
