Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl promises the city's new clean up crews will be "hokey" but not pokey. Starting today, Ravenstahl says his Hokey Patrol will remove graffiti, paint street curbs, replace signs and work with residents and businesses on public safety and small business issues. "Hokey" is another term for someone who cleans streets with a broom and a barrel. The term is sometimes used by older Pittsburghers and others in the Northeast. In addition to public works employees, the patrols include building inspection, police and redevelopment officials.
